Computer applications technology

This is the case even today in some schools. The solution can be carried out by the learner or the computer or a combination of learner and computers.

The need for computer applications technology

The introduction of computers in schools is a process which needs time to become self-generating with younger teachers who are now entering schools having used computers in their own training. They can use their computer laboratories to offer afternoon classes to the community and charge them for this service. The researcher recommends that the Department of Basic Education should employ teachers who are well trained in Computer Applications Technology. Learners need profound Computer Applications Technology CAT knowledge and a general reasoning ability as well as investigative strategies for solving ill-defined problems. For qualitative data, thematic analysis was used to analyse the original data obtained from the semi-structured interviews. My initial investigation revealed a general complacency about complying to the current generally accepted required technicist CAT education practice from teachers and my learners viewpoint. This is particularly true for learners from the rural areas, since most of their parents are unable to pay for them to further their education at tertiary institutions. This exposed the vital relationship between authentic learning Lombardi, with its constructivist underpinning Von Glasersfeld, and how we as humans naturally learn through experiential learning Kolb, according to the natural functioning of the brain Zull,

Computer Applications Technology helps learners acquire computer skills that improve their performance when they enter tertiary institutions. I am the Head of Department and Computer Applications Technology CAT teacher and have a passion for the subject because it is meant to equip learners with knowledge, skills, values and attitudes to create, design and communicate information in various formats.

Findings show that teachers do not always use classroom practices that encourage critical thinking. The findings of this study reveal that; teachers in rural areas lack a functional Computer Literacy foundation on which to build new technology and skills.

This irreconcilability with the intended aim of CAT education compelled me to take on the challenge that faced me head-on.

the demand for computer application technology

Problem-solving as a skill involves a range of processes that includes analysing, interpreting, reasoning, predicting, evaluating and reflecting. To promote critical thinking skills, teachers must engage learners in higher-order thinking.

Why is computer applications technology important

However, learners can benefit substantially from this new technology because they can be able to do their work as a group while they are not all in the same physical space. I had to sacrifice the security of all the provided support materials, through which I was in control of my good teaching, and took the courage to immerse myself in the daunting task of the professional practice of facilitating authentic learning. The researcher recommends that the Department of Basic Education should employ teachers who are well trained in Computer Applications Technology. Most Computer Applications Technology teachers were not trained to teach computers as a subject. This discrepancy prompted me to engage in an investigation to ensure that my education practice will be fulfilling that indispensable aim of CAT education of ultimately utilising computer technology software applications to solve real-life problems. I am the Head of Department and Computer Applications Technology CAT teacher and have a passion for the subject because it is meant to equip learners with knowledge, skills, values and attitudes to create, design and communicate information in various formats. The Department should encourage primary schools to teach Computer Studies so that when learners study Computer Applications Technology at high school they have a basic grounding in computers. Although the National Curriculum Statement has explicated this as the purpose of Computer Applications Technology, the supporting curriculum documents and the teaching and learning materials provided, seem to regard the subject as a technical one that requires a rather technicist teaching modality.

To flourish in the world of work, computational thinking has to be a fundamental part of the way learners think and understand the world. The study culminates in a computational thinking and problem-solving toolkit developed by the researcher.

Computational thinking as addressed in the first literature chapter is the description and the promotion of new ways of thinking in an increasingly digital age.

Computer applications technology

Eight CAT teachers were interviewed to ascertain the afore-mentioned. Insufficient guidance and help in instructional use, insufficient technical assistance, and an insufficient number of computers are other important problems. In South Africa, students have only recently started taking Computer Studies as a major subject in teaching. Greenwood notes that; many teachers entered the profession with arts-based qualifications. The findings of this study reveal that; teachers in rural areas lack a functional Computer Literacy foundation on which to build new technology and skills. In addition, this study also employed the qualitative method with semi-structured interviews to gather data relating Abstract vi to problem solving and computational thinking skills. Findings show that teachers do not always use classroom practices that encourage critical thinking. Computational thinking as addressed in the first literature chapter is the description and the promotion of new ways of thinking in an increasingly digital age. Those that do, face many challenges including a lack of electricity. Computational thinking is a way of solving problems and is a cognitive or a thinking process. It can also help them to find jobs in companies that need people who are able to operate computers. Computer Applications Technology helps learners acquire computer skills that improve their performance when they enter tertiary institutions. The introduction of computers in schools is a process which needs time to become self-generating with younger teachers who are now entering schools having used computers in their own training. It was also used to test the relationship between problem solving and computational thinking skills.

It is recommended that Schools ask companies for donations to enable them to buy computers. Learners need profound Computer Applications Technology CAT knowledge and a general reasoning ability as well as investigative strategies for solving ill-defined problems.
